Bruhn and Nureyev as each other’s mirror

If you were backstage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Sydney in December 1962, you could have seen Erik Bruhn dancing in Australia in class with his then lover, Rudolf Nureyev, when Bruhn was guesting with the Australian Ballet.

You weren’t? Well, here they are in this rare snippet of film.

Valerie, this is an exquisite few minutes. The music doesn’t intrude but actively creates ambiance for the voice and the vision. It also reminds me how hard so many of the simple ballet class exercises are, and more, how long it takes to make them, and how they look, perfect. Thank you for posting this.
