Cavallari to quit WA Ballet

The West Australian Ballet’s artistic director, Ivan Cavallari, is to leave the company at the end of this year.

He will take up the position of artistic director of Ballet du Rhin in Strasbourg, in the Alsace region of France. Bertrand d’At has been dance director of the Opéra national du Rhin and the artistic director of its ballet company since 1997.

Cavallari, who was appointed artistic director of the WA Ballet in 2007, is Italian.

In a statement, the WA Ballet said his family commitments in Stuttgart were partly responsible for Cavallari’s return to Europe.

He also has strong links to the Stuttgart Ballet which he joined in 1986 and where he became a principal dancer in 1994.

According to his biography on WAB’s website Cavallari regularly works as a guest teacher for the Stephan Thoss Company, the Czech National Ballet, the Stuttgart Ballet and the Liaoning Ballet.
