Last dances for François

The Queensland Ballet’s International Gala, an annual event, will showcase the guest dancers Jón Vallejo and Chantelle Kerr (Semperoper Ballett Dresden), Natalie Kusch (Vienna State Opera Ballet) and Daniel Gaudiello (The Australian Ballet) and the freelance contemporary dancer, Paul White.

This will be the the 15th and last gala produced by the artistic director, François Klaus, who will leave the company at the end of the year to be succeeded by Li Cunxin.

The gala will also feature Dîner Dansant, a work by the Dutch choreographer Nils Christe, an excerpt from François Klaus’s Timeless Dances, and a new work by Gareth Belling, a dancer and choreographer with Queensland Ballet.

The gala mood will continue in late October with a brief season called A Classical Celebration, comprising excerpts from The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and La Sylphide, followed by a gala reception for Klaus after the show on October 31.

Dates for the International Gala are 3, 4 & 5 August.
