Three stars withdraw from Australian Ballet gala

Just one week before the Australian Ballet’s series of gala performances for its 50th anniversary begins on October 31, comes the news that the star attractions, David Hallberg from the Bolshoi Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, and Dorothée Gilbert and Stéphane Bullion from the Paris Opera Ballet, are not dancing in the gala due to injuries sustained by Hallberg and Bullion.

The company has not made a statement but the three names have been deleted from the cast list on the Australian Ballet’s website.

Replacement dancers will be San Francisco Ballet principals Sofiane Sylve and Pierre-François Vilanoba.

Valerie, as far as I know: Hallberg hasn’t danced at all since July, and isn’t scheduled to appear with either ABT or Bolshoi before Christmas.

Bullion’s injury was cited on Gilbert’s personal website as the reason their trip was cancelled. It was on her site as long ago as October 10 I am told.
