Queensland Ballet’s star coup for 2014

The Queensland government has announced an exclusive season by the Queensland Ballet of Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet starring Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta.

The season, from 27 June to 5 July, 2014, is a major coup for the artistic director, Li Cunxin.

The season will be underwritten by the Queensland Government’s new Super Star Fund that will invest $3 million over four years to support local performing arts companies to engage internationally renowned artists.

The company’s season at the Lyric Theatre at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre will be presented with sets and costumes from the Birmingham Royal Ballet production.

Li Cunxin said: “MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet is widely considered the best in the world. It is rarely seen outside of the UK and has never been performed in Australia. It is a huge coup for Queensland to secure this exclusive production, and an honour for a company of our size to be trusted with this world-class ballet”.

Dear Jill, tickets for Romeo & Juliet will go on sale when Queensland Ballet officially launches its 2014 season next month – that is, in September 2013. The Queensland Ballet suggests that you join their monthly enews, At the Barre, to ensure you keep you up-to-date with any further developments.
