Christopher Hampson appointed artistic director of Scottish Ballet

The Scottish Ballet’s dancers are likely to be celebrating this week with the news that Christopher Hampson is to be the next artistic director of the company.

Hampson is both congenial and charming, and known to many dancers around the world for his work with such companies as the Royal New Zealand Ballet, English National Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet Black, and all the candidates in the annual Genée International Ballet Competition.

Born in Manchester in the UK, he is a graduate of the Royal Ballet School and danced professionally with English National Ballet.

He will take up his new job in August next year, succeeding Ashley Page.

Hampson is a co-founder of the International Ballet Masterclasses in Prague and has been a guest teacher for English National Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Bonachela Dance Company, and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.
