Dutch choreographer to succeed Obarzanek at Chunky Move

Anouk van Dijk is to be the next artistic director and chief executive of Chunky Move, succeeding the founding artistic director, Gideon Obarzanek, who leaves the company at the end of this year.

Van Dijk, born in Velp, Holland in 1965, founded her own dance company, anoukvandijk dc, in 1998.

She graduated from the Rotterdam Dance Academy in 1985, and performed with several groups in the Netherlands and abroad such as Werkcentrum Dans, the Nieuwe Dansgroep, the Rotterdamse Dansgroep and Amanda Miller’s Pretty Ugly Dance Company.

Her work, STAU, was performed in Australia at the Adelaide Festival of Arts and the Sydney Opera House in 2006.

In a press release announcing the appointment today, van Dijk said: “I like to push boundaries and embrace the challenges and surprises this brings. Like Chunky Move, I love craft, diversity and engagement. I think because of this, Chunky Move chose me and I chose Chunky Move. I am looking forward to this new perspective and to collaborating with many great Australian artists.”
