Natalie Weir’s big night

The artistic director of Queensland’s Expressions Dance Company picked up two major awards at the Helpmann Awards at the Sydney Opera House tonight.

For Where the Heart Is, she won the award for Best Choreography and also for Best Ballet or Dance Work.

Set within the remnants of an old Queensland house, Where the Heart Is was inspired by David Malouf’s memoir, 12 Edmondstone Street.

The two performers in Narelle Benjamin’s In Glass were the other major dance winners, with Paul White winning for best male dancer and Kristina Chan for best female dancer.
