Osipova to join Royal Ballet

The Royal Opera House has announced that the Russian ballerina, Natalia Osipova, will join The Royal Ballet as a principal in the 2013/14 season.

Her first performances will be as Juliet in Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, with Carlos Acosta as Romeo.

Osipova, 26, with her partner Ivan Vasiliev, quit the Bolshoi Ballet two years ago to join the Mikhailovsky Ballet in St Petersburg,

In recent months, they have been regulars on the international circuit guesting most recently in Australia with the Australian Ballet in Don Quixote.

Vasiliev will not be joining the Royal Ballet, but continuing his guest appearances that have included, with Osipova, performances with American Ballet Theatre.

Osipova and Vasiliev were nurtured and promoted by Alexei Ratmansky when he was artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet.
