Sydney Dance Company in 2014

For the Sydney Dance Company’s 2014 season, the artistic director, Rafael Bonachela, has commissioned new works by the Greek choreographer, Andonis Foniadakis and the Australian choreographer, Gideon Obarzanek.

Next year’s season, announced today, will begin in Sydney in March with a triple bill titled Interplay, comprising Obarzanek’s work, as yet unnamed, a new piece by Bonachela, danced to Bach’s Partita for solo violin in D Minor, performed by Veronique Serret, and Raw Models, by the Italian choreographer, Jacopo Godani, which was first performed in Australia by SDC in the company’s 2011 season.

Interplay will tour to Canberra in April, and Melbourne in April/May.

In October, at the Sydney Theatre, SDC will present a double bill under the umbrella title, Louder Than Words. The two new works will be choreographed by Bonachela and Foniadakis.

Bonachela’s 2 One Another will tour to Perth, in regional cities in Western Australia and in regional cities in Queensland during June and July.

SDC’s recent production, Les Illuminations, choreographed by Bonachela, will be staged at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre on June 14.

For a four-day season at CarriageWorks in Sydney in November, four as yet unnamed choreographers chosen by Bonachela will present works created for SDC dancers.

The video is a segment from Foniadakis’ Glory, choreographed for the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève.
